We got tired of waiting for Kriger to sort their artwork out so we released the new demo ourselves (many months after it should have been). It is simply titled 07/02/2006 because that is when recording began and ended. It's the rawest one yet, with absolutely no digital intervention apart from inevitable transferrence onto CDR (sorry we're not tr00 enough for tapes). See Discography for a copy.

Still no news on the forthcoming split release as yet but there are plans to record again soon. There is plenty bubbling under the surface...

A split release with Derbyshire black metal one man band Kriger is currently being planned. More details to follow as we get them...

Va has left the band due to our increasing aura bleakness that he no longer wished to endure. Forthcoming gigs will be performed as a three-piece. The new dawn is likely to be even more grim than before...

Myrggh Interviewed by Explosion Cerebral Webzine - Peru (January 2006)

1- Was Souldust create to destroy the happiness, if not so to what was formed?
We formed perhaps not to destroy happiness as such, but to promote GRIMNESS. There a gap in Welsh/British metal that requires a band conveying feelings of gloom and wretchedness, at the same time being dirty and nasty. We are not out to ruin anyone's day, but if you already feel like shit we're here for you!
2- Could be described your sound like black doom, or how do you think that is the right description, which are your influences?
Our influences come mainly from early 90s black metal, in particular Darkthrone as well as the more suicidal sound of modern bands like Leviathan from America, but our sound always seems very British as we are inspired by some Northern English bands like My Dying Bride, Anathema and early Paradise Lost, particularly the early work by those bands. This is perhaps inevitable because of the age we are. I think that the feeling those bands achieved in the early 90s is lost in modern metal either because it is unfairly overlooked or maybe the modern bands are too concerned with having a polished (well produced) sound. Modern production techniques often try to mask the fact that the instrument has been PLAYED by human hands, instead giving the impression that it has been pieced together in a factory.
Vocals are also very important to our sound and are not very doom-like at all. They are more inspired by Bethlehem's Dictius Te Necare album (Rainer Landfermann!!) and Darkthrone's Panzerfaust - that completely out of control style.
Whether our style is black doom or black metal or dark metal or something else really is for others to decide, so we don't tell people what category we fit into. Instead they tell us, and what they tell us is usually different.
3- How was the recording of Souldust I, do you think that this demo was your first step to been known in the scene?
Souldust I (and also Wintergrim) was recorded onto our former guitarist Va's computer using some very basic equipment. In particular, some of the drum mics were inadequate, but all things considered, the sound is heavy enough and clearer than a lot of ridiculously 'necro' shit that gets factory pressed onto CD. (Necro is cool until it just sounds like a fucking mess). My only complaints really are that the cymbals are too quiet and the songs are not well developed enough and aren't really what we're about these days. But it was recorded in our first four months of existence and we were still finding our sound. It didn't really lead to us being 'known in the scene' very much because we didn't push it very hard. A few copies went out to those who were interested at gigs.
4- I think that Souldust you are the mastermind, what do you try to express with the band, are reflect your ideas in each lyric?
Most of the concepts behind Souldust are from Arrrrrrrach's ideas although we all contribute. As I am the only member with regular internet access, I do most of the correspondence and websites, email etc.
Arrrrrrrach is very interested most forms of art and always tries to identify the negative drive behind any medium whether it be music, film, or painting (he is quite accomplished painter) and Souldust conveys negativity. It is dark in mood, bleak, and in places wretched (in the truest sense of the word - lacking pride, imperfections are left in and simply add to the effect). Lyrics can be broadly described as grim - about stress, paranoia, hopelessness. They are abstract concepts usually described in concrete ways.
Apologies for the vague reply, but like I said, I'm not the lyricist!
5- Wintergrim is your last demo, how is the answer about it, have you sent it to any label?
Wintergrim took a very long time to finish for several reasons and by the time of release we had already moved on musically from that and are looking forward to the next recording. For this reason, we have not distributed a great number of these. However, the response has been favourable and we are getting the reputation in our part of the world as being far crazier than the average extreme metal band. Most metal bands here play polished sounding death/thrash or Isis style doom (if this can be called doom?) or even desert rock and cock rock (coming from South Wales, this is a complete joke). We are something different. Something strange!
6- Have you played in live, if easy to have shows in Wales?
Most of our gigs have been very local and small although we have been to England a couple of times. There have always been very few decent well known metal bands in Wales and the scene here is very quiet. Its mostly the kind of bands I mentioned earlier except all the death metal bands are in England, not Wales, so we're left mostly with the glam bands! Bands in Wales play to 20 people and think they're rock stars. Its shit.
7- What do you know of Peru or Southamerica?
As far as metal goes, I know about the obvious South American bands such as Sepultura, Sarcofago, Krisiun and there are probably others I can't think of at the moment. I believe the underground is very strong but I am quite ignorant of it.
I know some parts of South America have a problem with violent crime, such as in Rio De Janeiro, but its a very beautiful place.
You also have fascinating history of ancient civilizations (Incas) but since the most predominant language seems to be Portuguese, I suspect this is another case of European invasion destroying the old ways.
I understand you drive on the left in Peru (as we do in Britain) but the rest of South America drives on the right. Am I correct?
8- Do you believe in terrorism to shot your ideas, what do you think about Tony Blair?
I don't believe in terrorism to promote my ideas, but I don't know what I'd do if I was as desperate as some people in the world. There are never easy answers to questions such as these, and until terrorism affects me I'll try not to judge anyone.
Tony Blair is definitely one of the strongest leaders we have had for years in Britain, but I strongly disagree with a lot of his decisions, and not only in connection with the war in Iraq. I believe his primary motivation is the interests of business, not necessarily the well-being of the people who elected him. But its a difficult job and I'm glad I'm not in his position.
9- Why do you use nicknames and not your real names?
I can't answer for the others in the band, but I chose my name just for aesthetic purposes. I like the fact that it can't be easily said.
10- Are you satanist, do you practice or belong to any lodge?
I do not consider myself a Satanist, I am an Atheist and I have no spiritual beliefs at all. When you're dead, that's it. I think its arrogant to think that you have a place reserved for you when you die. We are no different to any animals, we all have fundamentally the same interests as animals and we live and die by the same rules. I don't have a problem with people who have religious beliefs and faiths see to be based on good philosophies, but when it becomes organized it affects other people, politics, and wars, that's just ridiculous. Its like killing children for believing in Father Christmas!
11- Any future plan?
To record again and play more and better gigs. As far as the concepts for the band goes, there is no plan. You can't force these things. Whatever comes out has to come naturally to us. I don't tend to think beyond the next few months.
12- Any last comment?
Stop smiling...
